“This large etching of a small cosy town is a rough guide to the emotional geography of a society hooked on social media. A place where opinions and feelings form that perhaps are inappropriate for real life. A community of cults untroubled by the give and take of face-to-face social interaction. The districts are labelled in block letters: PHD, SMUG, IDENTARIA, COOL, SINCERITY. You can pop in for a drink at a pub called The Selfie and Socialist or Style over Substance or get lost in the boggy marshes of modern sexuality. Everywhere there are neologisms: tradwife, purity spiral, pseudoprofundity, fauxminism. Most of us live increasingly in this town. It is a place of fantasy. This map may not be much help in real life.”
