"The term Lustration is taken from the ancient Roman lustratio purification rituals. It is the process of making something clear or pure, usually by means of a propitiatory offering and accompanied by formal ceremony and procession.
In the title is heard the positive resonance of 'lustre', as in something bright and shining, and the ironic one in “illustration.” The simplicity of form, colour and composition reinforces the idea of clarifying or seeking for the essential. The format of a group of prints which appear to pass through compositional variations is in itself a form of procession.
In the 20th century in post-communist Central and Eastern Europe, a purge of government officials came to be known as a lustration."
